I LOVE homemade jelly, jams and preserves. LOVE . LOVE . LOVE them.
Since I don't make it, I depend on getting it as a gift. I don't get it often, and when I do it gets savored liked fine wine, rare truffles or caviar. I hide it in the cupboard until I'm ready to eat it. After I open it I hide it in the fridge so that some unappreciative person who just wants something sweet to put on toast doesn't waste my precious jam by slathering it on and gulping it down without the appreciation it deserves. When I eat it I make sure to have the time to sit down and eat it slowly, savoring each bite.
Last week, I found a good way to keep the jam to myself (or my spouse whom I share my jam with when he's nice). Chris was rummaging around in the fridge, looking for something to eat for breakfast. "Great," he said, "expired jelly... sour cherry from 2009" and rooted around until he found the Oregon berry preserves we normally eat.
Karen, thank you! ...and if you have any more of the expired 2009 sour cherry preserves left, I'd be most happy to finish that off for you.

Good thing for you that Chris is the type of kid that leaves empty milk carton and moldy leftovers in the fridge because if he wasn't, he would of thrown out your precious preserves because they were expired.
lol good thing for you ;)
I hadn't thought of that. It is a good thing!
