For the first time, the girl's swim coach thought they could participate in the Animal Meet. This is a special meet put on by our swim club that is a bit different than the typical meet in that there are 3 long events where the times are combined to get the final winner. Initially, the girls were not at all excited to learn (understatement) that I signed them up but by the time the meet rolled around, they had built up enough confidence from practice that they felt up to the challenge. Erika did great - she made it thru all three events without being DQ'd and she beat her coaches goal of a 10 minute 500 freestyle by almost a full minute. I could have burst with pride. What a trouper! Unfortunately, Sasha's stomach was not cooperating (probably not helped by the 5 cupcake dinner she had at a birthday party the night before) so she was unable to participate.
