Bruce and I took the week of 4th of July off to spend with the kids. Our plan was to pack up and pick up Chris on Thursday night and head to the beach. We managed to get the truck loaded with dogs kennels, bins and cooler packed with a week of food in an hour and in time to get Chris and go straight to the beach. About 5 miles from our house, Bruce commented that after riding the bike all week, the truck seemed to have no power. About 30 seconds later, the truck stopped running. After 10 minutes, the truck still wouldn't start and we came to the very unhappy conclusion that it was seriously dead. I called up our friend Don to come haul the dogs, girls and myself back to the house so I could turn around and get Chris while Bruce got the truck towed to the dealership in town so it would be there in the morning. We were not happy.

The next morning, we were up at 7am trying to get the car fixed (remember, this is a Friday before a big holiday weekend). After calls to a few dealerships, we towed the truck to another dealership about 20 miles away since they had someone available to start figuring out what was wrong. No promises it would be done but they could at least look at it. At 3 pm we knew what the problem was and after several phone calls between dealerships, the dealership that messed up the fuel pump previously paid overtime to the other dealership (and our towing charges) to get the truck done that day. We picked it up at 7 pm and were on our way by 10pm. We were a bit tired. Erika did a Chris imitation in the truck.

While at the coast we played ...and we worked. Between surfing, fishing, eating and fireworks we cleaned up the yard and I supervised the building of a several ton rock wall (having injured my arm pulling out 30 ft paved path earlier in the week). The wall was needed after Bruce successfully eradicated the 20 year old stand of bamboo over the last few months and we realized not only did we lose the screening of the plants but our yard might slip into the street. The wall came out great!
