Opening day

Today was opening day of duck season. We'd been getting excited seeing flocks of geese and ducks moving around the valley the last few days. Alas, the day started with no wind, temps in the 50s and starry skies. Not the best start to a successful duck hunting day.

Needless to say, things were a bit slow. I amused myself taking pictures of this little cutie with the new waterproof camera. I was hoping he'd catch some of the flipping mosquitoes that were buzzing around. Bruce was less cooperative than the tree frog about getting his picture taken. I wore him down eventually.

We ended the day about 11am, with 3 ducks shot for 16 people. The first one downed by my baby with an great shot. A wood duck, which we unfortunately lost in the grass across the pond. Total bummer. On the plus side, lots of geese in the air and quite a few came looking. A couple of Cacklers even sat down in our decoys for quite a while.
